Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) ensures that patient care is provided in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Enloe Medical Center. The CNS is a resource to staff, management and other healthcare team members regarding nursing care practice for the critical care population. The CNS provides direct patient care and education to patients, families, students, and nursing staff. The major functions of the CNS are: (1) clinical practice/consultation, (2) continuous quality improvement, (3) education and staff development, (4) research/problem solving, (5) program development/administrative support, and (6) professional development. The CNS plans, coordinates, evaluates, and presents educational programs and services for Enloe health professionals, outside agencies and families of patients. These services further the mission of Enloe Medical Center, which is to provide high quality, cost effective healthcare for the people in the communities we serve.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:Minimum:Five years acute critical care nursing experience with an emphasis on Cardiovascular Surgery and/or Trauma nursing.Membership in a professional organization and attendance to conferences regarding critical care nursing

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:Minimum: Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing. Current California Board of Registered Nursing CNS certificate Current CPR recognition ACLS PALS CCRN Completion within 18 months: TNCC Desired: National Certification in areas of critical care (CCRN, MICN, CEN, ATCN, CNRN) American Heart Association BLS instructor card. American Heart Association ACLS instructor card. Masters in Nursing with emphasis in Critical Care, Neurotrauma and/or Cardiovascular Nursing.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:Demonstrate ability to work with a minimum of supervision and possess effective communication and interpersonal nursing leadership skills. Must demonstrate by delivering direct patient care either singularly or in tandem with orienting staff, technical competence, professional clinical judgment, communication skills and sensitivity for the critical care patient and family. Must have knowledge regarding program development, implementation and evaluation and concepts regarding quality improvement. Must be creative and committed to excellence in critical care nursing and education. Must have the ability to interpret and conduct clinical research. Must be familiar with all modes of invasive Hemodynamic monitoring, Invasive Cerebral Pressure monitoring. Interpretation of cardiac rhythms, invasive wave forms, radiologic and laboratory studies.
