Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Management, performs the following concurrent and/or criteria based screening functions: surgical case review/blood utilization review, generic screens, risk management screens, drug usage evaluation, infection control screening, and any other assigned screening functions on designated patient groups. Recognizes variations from criteria and communicates with a variety of clinical disciplines and/or physician reviewers to clarify/justify the variation. Assists Medical Staff in committee work to include design, execution, analysis and reporting of focused and ongoing studies; agenda and material preparation for all QI/PI meetings, minute taking; assessment of compliance with JCAHO Performance Improvement standards and standards of practice; assists in implementation of corrective action for non-compliance. Consults with the clinical support department to which assigned, to foster development of a Performance Improvement program for the Medical Staff, assess compliance with standards and assist with corrective action as needed.

Qualifications

Education :

A. Graduate of a school of nursing with a current RN license.

2.Experience :

A. Minimum of two years experience in Performance Improvement/Utilization Management or Case Management activities

in acute care health setting strongly preferred.

3.Specific Requirements :

A. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas

B. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with medical staff members, hospital personnel, state, local and federal agency personnel as well as other members of the health care team.

C. Knowledgeable of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to federally funded programs as they related to utilization review, discharge planning and financial reimbursement.

D. Possess the ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

E. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

F. Possess innovative problem solving abilities.

G. Must be highly analytical, logical and organized in approaching tasks.
